Be A Baller Not A Bully Recap Pt. 2

Monday, August 12th, 2019

This is the second year of the co-ed camp which was founded and is run by Ta'Quan "Tootie" Zimmerman, a local product who still plays professionally in various international leagues.

The morning session is filled with skills and drills while the afternoon consists of "run and shoot games" but the anti-bullying theme is a constant over the course of the week with various speakers scheduled to attend.

Here's a look at who has impressed last week:

Chris Ortiz, 2024: A scrappy and willing defender, he is vocal and smart for a young player, especially one that is playing 2 years up.

Mel Mel Thomas, 2026: One of the top rising 6th graders in the country, "Magic Mel" has a great first step and a smooth handle, he has a really high IQ and sees the floor well.

Zaire Lott, 2024: All arms and legs to date, but great fundamentals and footwork. He defends, rebounds, plays hard and uses the glass. Lott can also stretch the floor and has range to 3. Zaire is the younger son of Waterbury legend Phil Lott.

Jared Butler, 2025: Only a rising 7th grader, the West Haven native is already 6-2 and boasts massive upside as he moves well and knows how to use his body.
